Melissa
and Kevin met in the fall of 1987 as freshmen at Doyle
High School in South Knoxville. They quickly became
friends and began dating shortly thereafter. Throughout
high school they remained close and continued to be
friends long after their breakup. After high school,
they continued to hang out and stayed in touch. After
a while, they drifted apart, each marrying someone
else and having two children apiece.

| In
2001 Kevin and Melissa communicated briefly via e-mail before
their high school reunion. At the reunion, Melissa didn't
recognize Kevin, but once she realized who he was, they
were glad to see each other again. They stayed in touch
for a while after the reunion, getting together once or
twice before losing touch again. |
Years later, Melissa and Kevin were both going through
divorce proceedings when a friend of Melissa's introduced
her to a social networking website called MySpace.
Melissa was told that you can find virtually anyone
on that site, and a few keystrokes later, Melissa
had found Kevin once again. She cyberstalked Kevin
for a few days reading his stories and browsing through
his photos, amazed at all the old high school friends
with whom Kev was still in touch. Finally, armed with
the knowledge of what Kevin was doing and who he was
associated with, she made contact in a MySpace message. |

| "So
you think you can cook?" was the subject of the
message. Kevin replied with an array of cullinary questions
of his own, unleashing the duel, er, dual roles in
the kitchen that they still enjoy today. Aside from cooking,
they caught up on other subjects, such as jobs, children,
friends, and decided to meet up in Knoxville. |

They
met up on a cold and rainy day in Brian Turbyville's
driveway. They approached each other and gave each
other a hug - an embrace that lasted for nearly two
minutes. It was clear that there was more at heart
than two old friends reunited. Over the next few months,
Kevin and Melissa saw more of each other, and the
friendship matured into something much more. As the
"baby steps" grew by leaps and bounds, Kevin
and Melissa rekindled the original love they shared
twenty years earlier. In August 2007, Kevin proposed
to Melissa on the front steps of the place they first
met - Doyle High School. |
